Can’t get your laptop running wireless during a dual boot into Server 2008 R2 ? It’s probably not broken WiFI drivers.

It’s a great way to handle day to day switches between fun and work using a dual boot between Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 using a VHD.

Usually all is well, as you can often just reuse Windows 7 x64 video drivers, network drivers etc., except what do you do if you find the WiFi is not working and there appears to be no support?

Before you swear and curse at the laptop manufacturer, (though maybe they deserve it for somewhat ordinary driver support in some cases), make sure you didn’t simply forget to enable the service inside Server 2008 R2 which is off by default.

Inside Server Manager, pick Features, then Add Features and just make sure yo uenable the “Wireless LAN Service”. Then you’ll likely find the drivers you installed 50 times, which looked like they were broken suddenly start working.
